Customer Stories — How Claret Capital Partners Accelerates its UK and German Venture Debt Pipeline with Beauhurst

“The UK and Germany are our two largest markets; together that’s probably 60% of the European market. Having German data is not only useful for our market, but for the wider European market. We’re already getting a lot of use out of it, and beginning to find opportunities.”

Customer overview

Client: Claret Capital Partners
Industry: Venture and growth debt

Claret Capital Partners is a leading independent growth debt fund. Established in 2013, the firm now manages over £1.3b in assets and has built a portfolio of 100~ companies across Europe, spanning technology, life sciences, and impact.

What Beauhurst delivered

Accurate, regulatory-backed insight into funding rounds, charges, and company filings across the UK and Germany, replacing fragmented, out-of-date data from other sources.

Early visibility of off-market opportunities, including unannounced and bridging rounds, helping the team identify companies likely to need refinancing or runway extension before competitors do.

A faster, more targeted way to build and refine shortlists of qualifying companies, supporting both deal origination and ongoing market and competitor intelligence.

Why Claret Capital Partners chose Beauhurst

Sourcing off-market opportunities

Claret’s team uses Beauhurst to identify companies that fit its lending criteria. Venture-backed businesses of a certain scale, typically with revenues above £5m, and to spot signals, such as unannounced funding rounds, that point to a company quietly raising or in need of further capital.

Tracking charges and refinancing windows

The team monitors registered charges to understand which companies have already taken on debt, and to flag when existing facilities are approaching the end of their interest-only period, a typical trigger for refinancing conversations.

Monitoring the market and competitors

Beyond origination, Claret uses Beauhurst ahead of investor meetings to review a venture capital firm’s UK and German portfolio, and to keep track of where competitor debt funds are lending, helping the team stay informed on market momentum in both countries.

The challenge

Claret’s origination relies on a mix of board introductions, management and adviser relationships, and direct market research, sourcing roughly a third of leads through platforms, LinkedIn, and industry coverage. Before Beauhurst, the team relied on Pitchbook and other data sources to identify and screen companies, but found the underlying data was often incomplete or out of date.

“Often when you use Pitchbook, or other sources, you’re just scraping the web, so in certain instances you’re only getting the headline numbers,” George Morgan, Senior Associate at Claret Capital Partners, explained. “The reality of the fundraising might be that most of the money went in a year and a half ago, and what’s being announced is really just an extension of the round.”

This made it difficult to build an accurate equity story for prospective borrowers, or to systematically search for companies that had previously registered charges, information that, without Beauhurst, the team could only look up manually and company-by-company, with no way to scan across the market or build outreach lists from it.

You could go on Companies House and find where the charge is and who’s got it, if you already knew the company. But it didn’t allow you to scan for the information; you couldn’t build an outreach list from it.

The solution

As a pan-European fund, with the UK and Germany together representing around 60% of the European venture market, full coverage across both countries was essential for Claret. And it made Beauhurst a natural fit.

The team now uses Beauhurst’s unannounced rounds and registered charges data to build a clearer, earlier picture of which companies might be raising, extending their runway, or approaching a refinancing point.

Claret’s team members also use Beauhurst weekly or monthly to run searches by region, sector, and growth stage, narrowing down to a refined shortlist of interesting companies far more easily than before. George told us how he relies on Beauhurst’s saved searches and notifications to flag newly qualifying companies, and uses the platform ahead of investor meetings to review portfolios and identify businesses worth a conversation.

The data quality is high. When we check it against our own portfolio, where we know exactly what’s going on, Beauhurst is more accurate than other available sources.

“We can rely on the data more, meaning we’re more tactical in our outreach, and more targeted,” George told us.

The results

Beauhurst provides Claret Capital Partners with a level of accuracy and reach across the UK and German markets that the team could not achieve before. The combination of unannounced rounds, charges data, and configurable searches by stage and sector has helped the team build more targeted, better-timed outreach, including building lists of select venture investors and their portfolio companies to support refinancing-focused outreach.

“There are lots of companies we’ve spoken to from Beauhurst that we wouldn’t have known about,” George said. “We just wouldn’t have been able to get that same understanding of what’s going on in the market, or the opportunities we see, without it.”

Looking ahead, the team is working towards feeding Beauhurst data into its CRM via API, and George sees real potential in a Beauhurst connector for Claude, allowing the team to query Beauhurst’s proprietary, regulator-backed dataset directly within its AI-assisted research workflow.

Beauhurst gives you deep market intelligence and insights into private markets that give you proprietary access and the ability to scan thousands of companies, without needing to go through manual filings yourself. It gives you an edge over others who aren’t using it.
