Top German Companies Powering the Energy Transition

John McCrea, 12 June 2025

The energy transition from fossil fuels to renewables has long been a key point of focus and innovation in Germany, and Europe, and beyond.

However, the reliance on importing gas has brought the debate into starker focus, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Building homegrown energy infrastructure is therefore now a vital objective for European nations, both in terms of energy security and the transition to renewables.

With this in mind, we’ve examined the state of the electricity generation and energy storage industries in Germany, ranking the top 10 companies based on their turnover.

You can find all these figures, and much more, on the Beauhurst platform.

Methodology

Our analysis focuses on German companies in the electricity generation and energy storage industries.

To be included in our list, companies must be headquartered in Germany, listed as ‘Active’ on the German Handelsregister, and be classified within the electricity generation and energy storage industries, using Beauhurst’s industry classification.
